Introduction to the Five Elements (五行, Wu Xing)

The Five Elements (Wu Xing) was found in ancient Chinese history around 1000 B.C The concept of Yin and Yang expresses energetic duality like the polarity of a magnet whereas Wu Xing represents 5 phases of energy. The application of Yin-Yang and Wu Xing theories are widely used in traditional chinese medicine, martial arts or Feng Shui itself. The Five Elements are Wood (, mu), Fire (, huo), Earth (, tu), Metal (, jin) and Water (, shui).

The Five Elements exists in every living being and are essential to life. They are able to determine the personality, physical and emotional health, physical characteristics and the way in which life unfolds. These belong to an individual’s unique element profile. When we are delivered at the time of birth, we received our unique element profile. At that particular moment, this unique energy is created based on Earthly cyclical and static magnetic field, the energy field that the Earth is subjected to from the Sun, Moon, and other Solar Systemic and universal influences. These complex interactions are studied and systemized by scholars and academicians into metaphysical systems which are still used effectively today. These interactions lead to Qi constantly and eternally changing which is known as luck in layman term.

Each of these five elements consists of Yin & Yang polarities.
